Dear  Mrs. and Mr. Graves:

In previous years you have had permits to mow the greenbelt by post 301.  This permit is now revoked. The mowing that you have been doing is far in excess of what is required for improving your drive way’s visibility.  Since you have a circular driveway it was determined that backing out of this part of the driveway was optional for you.  You may, of course, continue to mow between the roadway and post 301.

We would like to consider your opinion on the optimal manner by which to convert this grassy area to a natural area.  Our plan is to plant a number of small native trees and shrubs in this area.  Our question to you is - would you prefer that we kill the grass completely with Round-up and then plant, or just remove the grass immediately around the plants?  Information on Round-up can be found at http://www.roundup.com/product_info/frameset.html.
The advantage of Round-up is that it will reduce competition from the grass.  The disadvantage is that it is not organic (but probably not harmful) and that the grass will turn brown.

We also plan on putting in an additional 4X4 wooden post between posts 301 and 302.  This will help you in clarifying your lot’s boundaries.

Please send your reply by email to hallinen@hotmail.com or call me at 889-1058.

Sincerely,
