Plover
to East Beach
The blue zone is the area from Plover to East beach. This area includes
a drain
that goes under the driveway. The northeast side of this driveway has
some excellent Pennsylvania sedge. All seed bearing glossy
buckthorn was removed from the northeast side in 2004. The
southwest side of the driveway had an extensive stand of glossy
buckthorn. These mature trees were essentially a monoculture.
Many mature trees were removed in 2004. The trees are still waiting to
be chipped. It is probable that a large seed bank of glossy buckthorn
remains in the soil. This area will require seedling eradication
and resprout control for the next several years. There are still
some standing seedbearing glossy buckthorn that will be cut in
2005. No plantings will be done in 2005. If it appears that
glossy buckthorn seedlings are under control then small hazelnut and
hemlock trees will be planted in 2006. Poison ivy does well in
this area. It will not be eradicated but it will be controlled along
the paths.
