The Greenbelt Committee has been using prescribed burns in the management of the Common Area since 2008.
In 2016 we plan to burn areas of the common area that have a predominance of oak leaf litter. The goals of this burn include...
1. Burn oak leaves and litter so the nutrients are returned to the soil.
2. Suppress native and non-native vegetation that competes with the oaks and other desirable plants.
3. Reduce chance of wildfire.
Plantwise will be the company doing the burn. They have done our previous burns.
The exact date of the burn will depend on weather conditions. A notice to the neighborhood will be posted on the egroup when we hear from Plantwise. Fliers will be put in mailboxes of the houses adjacent to the planned burn area. We recommend closing windows during the burn to keep smoke out of the house.
