The red zone is from the the north end on the Oakland side to the east
beach.
This area contains some very high quality natural areas, some of the
best in southeast Michigan. This area has had extensive glossy removal
since 2000. The area of focus has been from the high path to the
shore. Our objectives here include control of glossy buckthorn,
english ivy, asian bittersweet, rosa multiflora and eradication of
purple loosestrife. The area from the path to the lot lines has some
major issues including Euonymus and ivy. The near term
objective here is to contain these invasives to the lot side of the
path. The long term objective is eradication of invasives and
restoration of native plants in cooperation with lot owners.
Plan:
Destroy all seed bearing glossy buckthorn.
Destroy resprouts and seedlings, anticipate covering 25% of area per
year
Destroy all purple loosestrife
Begin asian bittersweet eradication
Remove ivy and euyonmous from shore side of high path
No plantings planned for this area.
Anticipate 30 hours volunteer labor and 4 hours professional labor at
$125 per hour (2 person team)
Herbicide $20
$520
