Nov 8 2015 sprayed ivy mid Oakland side by post 101
Nov 9 2015 sprayed gallon near posts 96 and 97 and worked some more around 101. Used. 50 degrees and sunny. Hope the spring burn will hit this spot, lots of oak leaves. Residents appear to be dumping their leaves on the greenbelt near post 96.
November 14, 2015 Sprayed surfactant, 5% triclopyr and 1% scythe between posts 101 and 103. Didn't have enough to spray all the way to 103, about 10 feet shy. 44 degrees, sunny.
November 16, 2015, sunny 60 degrees. Sprayed garlic mustard, 1 gallon, in Blue Heron Park. Found about six asian seedlings that were still green, sprayed them. Resprayed vinca that didn't look sick.
November 17, 2015, COMPLETED OAKLAND SIDE GROUNDCOVER SPRAYING!!!!! Sprayed 2 gallons of favorite solution, that was one day old, 5% triclopyr, 1% scythe, dash of surfactant and 1% glyphosate. Found 5 garlic mustard plants, 3 glossy buckthorn seedlings. Sprayed them all. In area by post 106 resprayed the stuff I sprayed about a month ago. Didn't spray the stressed stuff, just the patches I missed and the stuff that was climbing. Had to do a lot of moving of leaves to get to the fresh growth. Forecast for rain about 5 hours after I completed spraying. Temp 60 degrees and partly sunny.
November 19, 2015 Sprayed 2 gallons vinca between posts 45 and 48. Got about 60% of the plants. Will need respray on account of leaves, but did a great job on about 25% of it.
November 27, 2015 bagged garbage bag with asian bittersweet seeds on west side of path in Blue Heron Park. No herbicide used. Clipped about 12 greater than 1/2 inch vines. Will require revisit in the spring to spray resprouts. Also, considerable garlic mustard in area., sprayed it 11 days ago, plants still look fine. Doubt will see much response given cold weather.
Purchased pelargonic acid (Scythe) to mix with renovate 3a or glyposate for controlling groundcover such as ivy. Prefer tricopyr 3a (renovate, garlon, element) to roundup since monocots not affected. Mix 6 ounces of triclopir/gallon water. Only for upland use. 0.5 ounce (15 ml)/gallon.
http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/scythe-herbicide-p-10284.html about $76/gallon
FEN
Cattails at the front near the path look native.
Have sprayed glossy with 5% renovate in fen. Worry it was too late in the season. Cut and dabbed trees with stems larger than my thumb. Didn't get all of them.
East beach reclaimed from parking lot, okay stuff coming in , goledenrode, sedges. Might want wild strawbery, say 20 2 inch pots. This area was mowed, not on purpose, around Oct 7, 2015. Have put logs in the area to discourage this from occuring again. Wonder how best to control crew who does mowing.
Lagoon top priority swallowort, at this time bag pods. Early July 2016 will spray plants. Top priorty for entire park. This work has been getting done by Carole G and her crew. Will post report when completed.
Asian bittersweet, clip and dab with full strength roundup, spray with garlon anything less than hip high. Work in progress, see reports. Major push this year. Have made significant progress on the greenbelt. Blue Heron Park work supervised by Diane H, still requires extensive work to control, probably additional 10 hours for this year.
Oakland side
invasive ground covers use 5% garlon 3a with scyth, spot spray regrowth. In areas with high natives, try to spray after killing frost, before leaves fall, best above 42 degrees F.
Respray resprouts - round up okay
Livingston side
Japanese hedge parsley - hand pull only, carrot smelling roots. Easy. Bag it, seeds stick.
Sweet woodruff - spray. Clonal growth, should control pretty easily.
